Moonambel Cabernet
Wine
Dalwhinnie Moonambel Cabernet is grown in a unique amphitheatre surrounded and sheltered by the highest range in the Pyrenees. The very first blocks, planted in 1977, were Cabernet and Shiraz.
The vines grow in soils left from gold mining in the 1850s. Hungry and poor quality, they keep fruit yields in check. Combined with a regime of hand pruning, the vines produce small berries with intense flavours.
The vineyard is dry grown and operated on organic viticultural principles. First produced in 1980 the wine matures in select Taraunsaud oak from Bordeaux. The wine speaks of the Dalwhinnie soil.
Dark purple red, Dalwhinnie Moonambel Cabernet has luscious black berry flavours with grainy oak tannins. A masculine, finely structured Cabernet. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
